Life Line wrist bracelet

One of my clients was given this vintage gold and platinum ring (left), featuring a mixed cut oval sapphire and two round European cut diamonds, and set in bezels of 18K yellow gold and platinum.

Previously in the possession of another family member, her parents gifted it to her on her 21st birthday, just as she was concluding her undergraduate studies, and embarking on a prestigious career.

Though she wore the ring in her 20s and early 30s, she put it aside, for various reasons, as she grew older.

In 2018 she lost her mother. Her father had passed away 16 years earlier. She wanted to create a piece of jewellery that signified how much they meant to her. The client intended that the piece connect the past with the future. To this end the piece incorporates a portion of the vintage ring dropped within a very modern design.

The framed negative space, cast in 18K white gold, represents the client’s life line. The client, now in her 50s, chose to place the stones at a point along the continuum when she received the gift from her parents, together with so much of their support.
